software-trainingA successful ERP implementation requires extensive planning and dedication. While every tip included in “5 Tips for an Efficient ERP Implementation” is important to the ERP implementation process, I’d like to focus on the final tip:

“When you’re ready to deploy do so over time so you can work out kinks, be diligent about user education, and determine metrics to track ROI.”

ERP implementations are often rushed for various reasons, and this often leads to problems further down the road that could have been identified (and prevented) early on in the implementation process. By spending a little more time in the planning process to work out any potential kinks, you could save a significant amount of time and frustration. Likewise, training on a new ERP system does not happen overnight and the added pressure on your staff can cause unjust animosity toward the solution. No company wants to have their employees fighting the process; this puts an unnecessary burden on everyone. Being diligent about ERP user education and giving them time to learn the system will improve your chances for ERP success.

It’s certainly nice to be able to say at the end of the day the cost of the ERP implementation has paid for itself in time-savings, production and/or sales increases. Putting a dollar amount to the return on investment (ROI) by tracking predetermined metrics will give everyone involved peace of mind.
